Rep. Jason Stephens Elected Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives

During the Ohio House of Representatives Opening Ceremonies, the members of the House elected Representative Jason Stephens to be the Speaker of the House for this General Assembly. Last month, during a House Republican Caucus meeting, the members elected Representative Derek Merrin as the Speaker-Elect. During today’s formal vote on the floor of the House of Representatives, several House Democrats united with the Representative Stephens Republican supporters for a vote of 54-43.

About Representative Jason Stephens:

Jason Stephens is proud to represent the people of Ohio’s 93rd House District. He brings both private and public sector work experience to the Statehouse, as well as a passion for helping Southern Ohio. Jason is the third generation and co-owner of his family’s business, Stephens & Son Insurance Agency, which has offices in Proctorville, Chesapeake, and South Point. Prior to joining his family’s business, Jason worked at BT Services Tennessee, a subsidiary of Bankers Trust as a recordkeeping manager for 401(k) and retirement plans. Jason is also a Certified Financial Planner® Certificant.

In addition to his private sector job, Jason has worked as a public servant for nearly two decades. He served three terms as Lawrence County Commissioner, easily winning reelection each time. Following his role as Commissioner, he was elected to serve as Lawrence County Auditor for three terms as well. He previously served on the KYOVA Interstate Planning Commission Board, and Ironton/Lawrence County Community Action Organization Board, the Ohio Medical Transportation Board, the Shawnee State University Investment Advisory Committee, and the County Auditors Association of Ohio’s Legislative Committee.

In his spare time, Jason enjoys golfing, volunteering as a PA announcer for Chesapeake High School sports, and taking in hay on the family farm. Jason has a degree in Finance/Economics and Business Management with a minor in Mathematics from Lipscomb University in Nashville. The Stephens Family is in their seventh generation in Lawrence County. Jason and his wife, Juli, live on a farm near Getaway and have three sons. The Stephens Family is active in the Rome Church of Christ in Proctorville.
