ODM Issues RFI to Seek Input on Ohio's Medicaid Managed Care Program

DeWine Administration Begins Process to Select Medicaid Managed Care Partners

The Ohio Department of Medicaid (ODM) released a request for information (RFI) on June 13 to gather public input as ODM begins the process to select new managed care partners. ODM’s first step in the process is collecting feedback on current Medicaid services, what is working and ideas for improvement.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine called on Ohio Medicaid in early January to ensure Ohioans get the best value in providing quality care. “Our mission in this process is to focus on the individual rather than on the business of managed care,” said Governor DeWine. “The request for feedback released today seeks information specifically from individuals receiving Medicaid services, providers and advocates. Their voices are vital to a just and fair managed care program.”

Feedback is being sought from individuals and providers in multiple areas, including:
• How managed care organizations communicate and support individuals and providers
• What benefits are most helpful
• How to best coordinate individual care
• How to file complaints and appeal managed care organization decisions

All feedback is important and will be considered throughout this process. Anyone that would like to share their experience with the current Medicaid managed care program or ideas and solutions for the new program are able to submit feedback through the ODM RFI webpage. Comments are due by July 31, 2019.

“Hearing from stakeholders is an essential part of Medicaid’s mission to put individuals first
throughout the entire process to select managed care partners,” said Maureen M. Corcoran, director of ODM. “We encourage anyone whose life is touched by Medicaid and the health coverage it provides to share their input.”

Special Note:  OAMES encourages all parties affected by the managed care program to weigh in with comments including consumers, providers, prescribers and caregivers.  OAMES will also be participating in the RFI and welcomes input from members by July 12, 2019.  Please submit your comments to OAMES executive director Kam Yuricich at kam@oames.org
