House Circulates Sign-On Letter for CRT Manual Wheelchair Accessories

Continue Efforts to Gain Signers

Complex Rehab Technology (CRT) manual wheelchairs and their components (a.k.a. accessories) are used by individuals with diagnoses like spinal cord injury, ALS, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, and traumatic brain injury. These individually configured mobility devices and seating systems allow this group of beneficiaries—representing just 7% of all Medicare manual wheelchair users—to manage their medical needs and maximize function and independence.

Representatives John Larson (D-CT) and Lee Zeldin (R-NY) are circulating a bipartisan letter to CMS for additional signatures to ensure people with disabilities who use Complex Rehab Technology (CRT) Manual Wheelchairs have the same access as those using CRT Power Wheelchairs.  We need you to get your Representative to sign on!

The letter relates to the need for CMS to “make permanent” the temporary policy change that was included in 2019 year-end legislation regarding the Medicare payment amounts for CRT Manual Wheelchair accessories.

Additional details including the position paper and the text of the Congressional letter to CMS are available at www.protectmymobility.org.

Thank you to NCART and AAHomecare's for their efforts on this work.  We encourage CRT providers to join the advocacy for these important services.
